"What Is An Outstanding Senior"
Alexandrea Worthy: "An outstanding senior is someone that never loses focus, sees the big picture, and remembers to keep their eyes on the prize. And above all, an outstanding senior knows that graduating is just first of many stepping stones on the lifelong journey to success" Alexandrea is attending the University of Pittsburg where she will major in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Pre-Medicine.
Josh Young: I believe that an outstanding senior is someone who demonstrates a well defined character. Also, to be an outstanding senior, you should be a leader, and rise to become a role model for your peers." Josh is attending NC State University where he will major in pre-Med.

2009 North Rowan "Teacher of The Year", Kimberly Martin Every year, each school in the Rowan-Salisbury School System selects a "Teacher of the Year" to represent their school and faculty in local and regional competition. This award is special because the recipient is selected by their peers. Ms Martin has been selected by the NRHS Faculty as their 2009 teacher of the year and we as the North Rowan Alumni Association would like to recognize this selection with a monetary gift. At North Mrs. Martin is a Spanish teacher and chariman of the School Improvement Team. One of her fellow faculty members describes her as "passionate about her subject, her students and her school". What more can you say? She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and married to the Rev. Philip Martin. Kim is the mother of little Philip and Christian.
2009 "North Rowan Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty Member", Sallie Hundley The inaugural recipient of the "North Rowan Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty Award" we proudly claim as one of our own. Not only did she excel as a student at North, she also has excelled as a teacher. She has returned to her alma mater to carry on a strong mathematic tradition. She exemplifies that true "Cavalier" attitude--to do whatever has to be done for the betterment of our school and community. Her extracurricular duties include coaching swimming, tennis and cheerleading. She has revitalized the Key Club and is able and willing to drive an activity bus for any team without a driver. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina where she received a Bachelor's degree in mathematics and a Master's degree in teaching.

GET ON BOARD!
Wondering if you were too late today to get your parking spot. Looking forward to the break between 2nd and 3rd period, when you catch a glimpse of that special someone. Meeting your best friends at lunch to complain about the Biology pop quiz. Participating in Cavalier sports, either as an athlete or a very vocal fan. We all share memories from North Rowan High - some wonderful and some "not so much."
Many of us have passed a threshold in our lives where we realize those events, when we were developing into young adults, had a far greater impact than we realized at the time. Even the mistakes we made taught a valuable lesson; don't repeat your mistakes. But while we think the best of all times to be in high school were our high school years, practically every class feels that way. That just shows the impact your high school years really had on you.
The North Rowan Alumni Association, Inc. was formed because of the connection that is shared by all of us who walked those halls. Even though there have been several major additions, the original building still stands. Today's students are walking the same halls as the first students who, hesitantly or optimistically, entered for the first time in the fall of 1958. Regardless of what you presume to know about today's students, the fact is that while they are in class, at the athletic fields or in the auditorium, they are having many of the same experiences that we had. Couldn't they benefit from our knowledge!
The Association has established goals to provide scholarships to students and faculty, improve the image of North Rowan High School in the community, and plan events for the alumni. You have been reading about the Association on the website. The NRAA, Inc. is now registered in the state as a non-profit corporation, and has obtained its 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. That means your donations are 100% tax deductible. Your Association's by-laws can be found on the website.
The Association is now moving forward to make the goals become reality, beginning with at least one scholarship to be awarded in Spring 2008. An added benefit is the gala celebration planned for October 18, 2008 at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer, with the theme "Fifty Years of Cavaliers". The celebration will show that we do indeed have much in common, thanks to North Rowan. But, as with any charity, what we can accomplish is directly related to the resources we have, both in membership and funding.

HISTORY and OBJECTIVES
The North Rowan High School Alumni Memorial Scholarship fund was begun by the Class of 1973 to reward outstanding students from our high school with the opportunity to further their education. Our initial support has been modest, but significant to the students who have been selected as recipients. This year, 2009 the fund will award $6,000.00 in scholarships.
Our campaign goal is to create a fund of $500,000.00 from which the earnings will be used to fund a full four-year tuition scholarship for a worthy graduate of North Rowan High School. To do this we must involve every graduating class in the history of North Rowan High in supporting this effort. By doing so, this scholarship will become one of the most significant awards for higher education in this area. Through modest but consistent contributions of many, we can change the future for some deserving students every year.
We can also establish a model and challenge other schools in our area to do the same.
BUILDING DREAMS OF ACHIEVEMENT
A college education. The ticket to a life of fulfillment, achievement, new life experiences, perhaps financial independence. Some high school students may never get the opportunity to attend the college of their dreams; others may never get the opportunity to attend college at all. You may have been one of these students yourself. The North Rowan High School Alumni Memorial Scholarship has already helped some of our graduates begin the journey of gaining a college education.
Begun in 2003 by the class of 1973, the North Rowan Alumni Memorial Scholarship has assisted nine outstanding graduates with college expenses. These students are currently enrolled in college, and have made good use of their scholarship monies. We need your help in continuing to make the dream come true for future students.
Please give serious consideration to pledging a small annual amount for this fund for this worthwhile endeavor- at a minimum, the equivalent of one night out for pizza. It will make a difference in the life of a North Rowan graduate.
